Tropical Indie Folk with Dark Humor

With songs about interesting personalities like John Travolta, there is no doubt that the Tiny Birds don’t mind infusing a bit of humor into their music; and on their latest EP, Local History, they do just that. The album has a lighthearted air and mingles indie-folk with the slight tropical pop feel of bands such as Vampire Weekend. Each song on the five-track EP moves along sprightly with catchy dual harmonies and nicely arranged folk instrumentation. The opening track, “Dark Horse,” quickly thrusts the listener in without skipping a beat, or a second of time. And from the first crack of the drums in the opening song to the last strike of the guitar in the EP’s closing track, “Bread and Pickle,” the band’s energy doesn’t letup.
